Foreman Win/Kingston Week

Posted Sunday, September 12, 2010 by Brett Jones
Hope you got to come support your Bulldogs in their victory over the Foreman Gators 47-13.  It was another good convincing win for us.  Next up is the Kingston Redskins.  It is our homecoming and the festivities start at 6:45 pm.  We do have some special events for the week.  Here is an excerpt from Kirsten Friend's (cheerleading sponsor) letter.

"Our homecoming festivities throughout the week will be a bit different than normal this year.  This week is also “Win-Win Week” through the OSSAA and Oklahoma Students Care, “a program initiated by the OU Cancer Institute to encourage high school leaders to develop cancer prevention and awareness programs for their schools and communities and to raise money to assist cancer patients from throughout the state.”  This program is sponsored by our state First Lady, Kim Henry, as well as Heisman trophy winners Steve Owens, Billy Sims, and Jason White.  We, here at Valliant Public Schools feel it is a very unique and important opportunity to support this program.  This program will make Oklahoma the first state in the nation to focus its youth on cancer prevention in one week through their athletic events!  Therefore, since it coincides with our Homecoming Week, we will be focusing on this in various ways throughout Sept. 13-17.

Wednesday will be the Oklahoma Blood Drive! It is a competition between our school and Wright City to see who can  have the most blood donated!!!  Please encourage everyone to participate!

The H.S. Softball Team and H.S. Football team, as well as the cheerleaders, will be wearing pink “Win-Win Week” bracelets to show their support throughout the week.  These bracelets will also be available for purchase in each building’s office, as well as Ms. Friend’s And Mrs. Watts’ rooms in the high school between classes.  Each bracelet costs $1, and for each bracelet bought, you may enter your name in a drawing for a door prize, which will be given at halftime of Friday’s game.

Also, the high school will be having “Penny Wars” between the classes.  Each class will have a bucket set up for coins to be placed in.  On Friday, whichever class has the most money will be awarded a longer lunch period.  Money will be counted on Thursday afternoon.  The winning class will be announced on Friday morning.

The homecoming parade will take place on Friday, Sept. 17. Time will be announced soon!!! Floats need to reflect our Homecoming themes: “Protect the Family” and “Win Win Week: Bulldogs Fighting Cancer”.  Our week’s dress-up days will be: Monday- Camo Day; Tuesday- Pink Out Day (everyone wear as much pink as possible! This is the day Mrs. Henry will be here!); Wednesday- Bulldogs Bleed Orange (Wear orange in support of the Blood Drive!); Thursday: College Team Day; Friday: School Spirit Day (Black and Orange).

Homecoming festivities will begin at the football stadium at 6:45pm.  Please encourage everyone to come out and support the candidates, school, and team!!!  We have all worked very hard and are hoping for a great week!!!!  Anyone willing to volunteer time or supplies, please contact Kirsten Friend, Brandi Watts, or Kara Brownsworth as soon as possible.  I will send a schedule for the weeks’ events asap!"
